The Golden Girls TV Makeover

This project would have to be my favourite so far!

I found this retro TV unit for sale with the insides already removed (bonus!). About a week later I stumbled upon the most fabulous Golden Girls wallpaper on Spoonflower! I knew immediately what I was going to create. And yes, it was totally worth the 2-3 month wait for it to arrive from Germany to Australia!

Once my wallpaper arrived it was then a matter of choosing which Dixie Belle Paint Company colours would match & compliment the wallpaper.

This piece was truly just a matter of using 3476592 metres of painters tape! I knew I wanted it to be super colourful & a little whimsical. But to make the wallpaper look extra effective I knew the inside of the TV should be a block colour & match the primary background colour of the wallpaper. I use this as a general rule for any piece I decoupage! For the custom colour blend I used 2 parts Dixie Belle Paint in Apricot with 1 part Rusty Nail.

Once the piece was painted & the wallpaper applied, I then went an extra step & added custom stickers! I created them with my Silhouette Cameo & some adhesive vinyl. I added 'The Golden Girls' & also added volume stickers! Unfrotunately this piece did not come with any buttons, switches or knobs! So I raided my box of random handles & knobs & found ones that would fit the gaps!

And then for the final finishing touch (because more is MORE!) I added remote-controlled LED lights to the inside! The TV was missing a remote in my opinion haha & thats when inspiration struck! The lights are also battery-operated so I simply nailed in the string of lights & positioned the battery-pack where the speakers would usually sit. The remote sensor works perfectly through the tiny gaps & you cant even see the battery pack!
